WORLD RABIES DAY PROGRAM AT GOVERNMENT MEDICAL COLLEGE, SRINAGAR, KASHMIR, J&K ON 28 SEPTEMBER 2011

World Rabies Day 2011 Seminar on ‘Rabies-Free Kashmir’ which was inaugurated by Er. R.S. Chib, Minister for medical & technical education, youth services & sports, J&K Government.

The speakers include

1) Dr. S. Muhammad Salim Khan, Assistant Professor Community Medicine & Programme Officer, National Service Scheme, Government Medical College, Srinagar

presented RIAF Documentary and ppt on Rabies-Free Kashmir

2) Dr. Dil Muhammad Makhdoomi, professor & HOD, Clinics, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, Shuhama, Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences, Kashmir: presented PPT on containment of dog population

3) Mr. Nadeem Qadri, Advocate J&K High Court who filed PIL on dog menace: presented Legal aspects.

Later special awards were presented to:

a) Mr. Nazir Ahmad, Male Nurse, Isolation-Ward, GMC associated SMHS Hospital, Srinagar for excellent performance in managing rabies cases.

b) Anti-Rabies Clinic SMHS Hospital, for commendable performance in managing animal (dog) bite cases since 2003. The memento was received by. Dr. Shahnaz nabi, Consultant and Mr, Muhammad Yousuf Mir, Incharge ARC.

Memento was also given to speakers, Dr. Qazi Masood Ahmad, Principal/ Dean, Government Medical College, Srinagar by chief guest.

Later a rally was flagged of by chief guest and doctors, students and guests participated in rally.

The WRD was organized by National Service Scheme, Government Medical College and I used APCRI also on banner being (possibly) the sole member in Kashmir.

World Rabies Day 2011 celebrated at Dehradun. 4 activities were done.
1. Talk on Rabies prevention by me and showing documetary film on Rabies for Students of Nursing and paramedical students and staff.
2.Talk on Rabies prevention by me and showing documetary film on Rabies for MBBS Students and faculties.
3.Community roleplay on rabies prevention at darbhanga basti area of Dehradun city.
4.Community roleplay on rabies prevention for school children and teachers at banjarawala area of Dehradun.

Once again the stalwarts in the field of Rabies control from all over the country and from abroad came together to share their experiences and discussed advances made. This time at the national capital New Delhi.

We are proud to announce that APCRICON 2010 at New Delhi, on the 3rd and 4th of July was a huge success!

The 12th edition of Apcricon saw deliberations by National and International experts in the field of Rabies Control and Scientific Paper Presentations by researchers. During this conference, the APCRI Young Scientist Awards for the years 2009 and 2010 were presented.

Download: Operational Guidelines for Rabies Prophylaxis – Intra Dermal Rabies Vaccination and Rigs Administration in Kerala

As part of IDRV Kerala 2010, a state level Training of Trainers (ToT) was conducted to provide hands on training on RIGs administration on 25^th and 26^th January 2010 at the Anti rabies Clinic of General Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram. There were 75 participants including Medical officers and Staff nurses from 14 district hospitals, Regional PEID cell coordinators, Medical officers and Health inspectors of Anti Rabies Clinic of 5 Govt. Medical Colleges. The training was led by Dr.G.Sampath, Deputy Civil Surgeon, IPM, Hyderabad & President, APCRI and Dr.D.H.Ashwath Narayana, Asso.Prof, Community Medicine, KIMS, Bangalore. The World Health Organisation (WHO) protocols for administering RIGs were explained to the audience. Patients who came to the Anti rabies clinic were given RIGs and the process of administration was demonstrated to the whole participants through Close Circuit Television (CCTV).

The afternoon session was organized in KGMOA hall where the participants had discussion with the trainers on administration of IDRV. Dr.M.K.Jeevan, Director of Health Services and Dr.V.Geetha, Director of Medical Education graced the valedictory function held at KGMOA hall, Thiruvananthapuram. Dr.V.Geetha handed over the momentos to Dr.G.Sampath, Dr.D.H.Ashwath Narayana, Dr.Preetha,ARC General Hospital and Mr.Sathpathy,Bharat Serums and Biologicals.

On the second day the participants were given opportunity to administer RIGs to Cat III patients at ARC, General Hospital.
